CAPTURE AND RECOVERY OF TETRAETHYL LEAD FROM EXHAUST GASES USING A FILTER WITH WETTEN IODINE SOLUTION

The paper discusses the methods of liquid and catalytic neutralization to reduce exhaust emissions from vehicles, an engine running in oil products. Alcohol mixture additives to gasoline reduce the CO content of carburetor engines. Barium additives reduce soot emissions from diesel engines by 70-90% and purify exhaust gases. Tetraethyl lead is used as an antiknock agent. In its pure form, the substance is not used, but is used to prepare an ethyl liquid, which is added to various grades of gasoline in order to improve their operational properties. For the capture and reduction of tetraethyl lead, filters were used in the form of porous silica gel, grade ASM, with a particle size of 0.25-0.5 mm, moistened with iodine solution. It was stated that the appearance of a dark brown ring using a 2% solution of sodium rhodizonic acid indicates the presence of lead in the analyzed residue, i.e. for the presence of tetraethyl lead in the analyzed gasoline. It has been determined that for the capture and recovery of tetraethyl lead vapors from the exhaust gas, using filters in the form of porous silica gel AFM with a particle size of 0.25-0.5 mm, moistened with iodine solution, a positive effect can be achieved. Purification of air (tetraethyl lead) from atmospheric air pollution is the most important problem of protecting the environment from harmful substances.
